There is no upper age limit for the donation of ophthalmologic tissue (eye). Tissue removal is also possible in old age. A restriction applies to donors under 3 years of age.
Heart valves and blood vessels
There is no lower age limit. Tissue donation of newborns and infants is possible – the need is very high. The upper age limit for the donation of aortic valves and blood vessels is usually 70 years. Pumoral valves can be donated up to an age of 80 years. Exceptions are possible after individual consideration.
Bone and soft tissue
The age limits vary according to the type and quality of the tissue. As a rule, it is possible to remove the tissue up to the age of 75, and in the case of large tubular bones even above this age.
