Mitteldeutsche Cornea Bank Halle

The Mitteldeutsche Cornea-Bank Halle (MCH) was founded in 1998 by Prof. Dr. med. Gernot Duncker, Prof. Dr. med. Frank Wilhelm and Dr. med. Timm Bredehorn-Mayr. Over two decades later, MCH now processes between 800 and 900 corneal donations per year. About 75 percent of the corneas are approved for transplantation.

This is important for the University Hospital Halle/Saale, where every tenth operation is a corneal transplant. MCH’s work is also important nationwide for patient care: MCH concluded a cooperation agreement with DSO-G, the predecessor company of the DGFG, as early as 2002, making it an important partner in the DGFG network from the very beginning.
