In 2007, the cornea banks at Hanover Medical School, Leipzig University Hospital and Dresden University Hospital were merged into the new clean room bank in Hanover.

In addition to corneal transplants, ultra-thin corneal lamellae for Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) are also prepared at the tissue bank in Hanover. The preparation in the highly sterile clean room of the tissue bank in Hanover and standardized work steps enable a success rate of 95 percent.
