32. Annual Meeting der European Eye Bank Association (EEBA) in Hannover

Germany’s largest network for tissue donation, processing and transplantation – the German Society for Tissue Transplantation (DGFG) – is pleased to host the XXXIIth Annual Meeting of the European Eye Bank Association (EEBA) from 16th to 18th January 2020 in Hanover.

The state capital of Lower Saxony is home to the DGFG headquarters as well as international trade fairs and the world’s largest marksmen’s festival. EEBA 2020 will take place in the congress centre of Herrenhausen Palace – right in the heart of the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen.

Workshops & Wetlabs

A comprehensive workshop and wetlab programme will open EEBA 2020. Interactive training workshops will give staff from tissue banks and donation, as well as physicians, the opportunity to discuss and reflect on issues related to donation, tissue processing, IT and database systems, fundraising and public relations.

Banking & Transplantation

Scientific lectures and poster presentations will give participants the opportunity to pass on their know-how in the fields of corneal banking and corneal transplantation. Quality management, storage and microbiological safety as well as the influence of donor properties on transplant outcome are also included in the EEBA 2020 programme. New products and services relating to eye banking can be explored in the exhibition area.

Donation & international development

The goal of the global initiative Vision 2020 – the elimination of avoidable blindness – was chosen as the central theme for EEBA 2020. Every year, the eye banking community helps thousands of people regain their sight through corneal transplants.

We invite national and global non-profit eye care organizations to present their health projects related to blindness, vision impairment and vision restoration to show how eye banking and tissue transplantation have contributed to this global initiative. In addition, the lecture programme will also include solutions for establishing sustainable and independent donation programmes worldwide.

Ethics in tissue donation, inter-regional and transnational cooperation and networks are also welcome topics.

Corneal donation, banking and transplantation offer impressive images and artistic perspectives.
Let’s make them visible – for the eye banking community and beyond!

Complex processes, medical aesthetics, emotions, fascinating microscope views… EEBA 2020 aims to highlight the impressive pictures and perspectives that the daily work in donation, tissue banks and transplant centres has to offer. EEBA and DGFG invite all conference attendees to participate in a photo and art contest “The Art of Tissue Donation, Processing and Transplantation”.
