It was founded with the aim of improving the care of patients from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and far beyond with safe corneal transplants and amniotic preparations and to anchor them permanently in the non-profit sector. Since 2006, the non-profit tissue bank has been supplying patients in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and throughout Germany with corneas and amniotic tissue. It is one of the most important tissue banks in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The Corneal and Tissue Bank Schwerin is an example of the successful establishment of a regional tissue bank. In total, more than 5,000 corneas from the Corneal and Tissue Bank Schwerin have been handed over for transplantation throughout Germany since 2006 up to and including 27 December 2018. The DGFG has been able to arrange more than 11,000 amniotic transplants at eye clinics since 2008.\u00a0Only for the year 2018 there were 1,635 amniotic transplants. This means that almost half of all amniotic transplants come from the Cornea and Tissue Bank Schwerin and thus from the DGFG network.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Cornea and Tissue Bank Schwerin, the tissue banks in <a href=\"https:\/\/gewebenetzwerk.de\/en\/cornea-bank-rostock\">Rostock<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gewebenetzwerk.de\/en\/cornea-bank-greifswald\">Greifswald<\/a> are part of the DGFG network and contribute significantly to patient care with safe corneal transplants throughout Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  style='height:50px' class='hr hr-invisible   avia-builder-el-6  el_after_av_two_third  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner ' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div><\/p>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h3>Contact<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Head and responsible person according to \u00a720c: Prof. Dr. med.
